Social responsibility is at the core of Citi Hopper’s business. Our two main projects are:
Based in Woodstock, Cape Town, the orphanage is home to 32 children. Citi Hopper as a company and individual staff members are involved in the orphanage. Activities range from organising a Fun Day for the children to providing necessities (toiletries, toys) or painting the dormitories. Citi Hopper brings experience in systems, controls and logistics the orphanage, which has already resulted in various rosters for the children, for homework, cleaning and play times. Staff members have taken individual children under their wing, checking up on their homework and progress at school, as well as visiting regularly. The intention is to encourage the orphans to work hard, complete matric and pursue tertiary studies. We also provide the opportunity for them to gain work experience in the tourism industry, giving them exposure to the world of work.
GOLD is an NPO (Non-profit Organisation) working directly with the youth of Southern Africa, and in particular with the youth in the Western Cape, Mpumalanga, KZN and Zambia. GOLD plays a pivotal role in building social capital in communities and they support education by developing a generation of young emerging leaders. The GOLD model uses peer-education as a means for young emerging leaders to encourage their peers to make informed choices and develop health-enhancing and purpose-driven social norms.
Peer educators attend weekly skills training sessions over a three year period in order to provide them with skills to:
- Role model health-enhancing behaviourWith this they gain valuable skills and practical work experience, which will lead to an increase in their employability and to a stronger community.
GOLD seeks to partner with local businesses and individuals in order to achieve their goals. In particular GOLD is able to refer candidates to our organisation for potential employment where there is a win-win situation where Citi Hopper has an opportunity to alleviate the high rate of unemployment in South Africa while at the same time having people in our business with the advantage of having been exposed to leadership skills and other experiences in their communities.
